Some of the ships in the Rebel Base kit are pretty rough and far from accurate, but the X-Wing fighters are actually not bad. The over all shape is good, particularly that of the fuselage. I picked what I thought was the best molded of the three X-Wings in the kit and cut the wings off with a hobby knife. I cut the engines off two of the lower fuselages, which do not have wings molded integrally. I trimmed the large gussets from the aft end and drilled out the engine exhaust nozzles. The engines are fairly accurate, given their small size, except for the intakes. I sliced the intakes off even with the leading edge of the engine base. I found aluminum tubing at my local hobby shop the same diameter as the intakes. From this I sawed sections the same width as the plastic intakes I'd cut off and super-glued them to the front of the engines. Finally, I glued strips of .010" plastic in the aluminum tubing to divide the intakes horizontally.
