When test fitting and trimming was completed, I began the most tedious part of the modification. I cut uncounted (but probably hundreds) tiny pieces of sheet styrene and cemented them to the sides of the Falcon. Most of these were squares and rectangles cut from .010" and .015" sheets. I varied the sizes and proportions of these at random but few were more than 0.10 inch on a side and most were smaller. I also cut thin slices from various diameters of styrene rod and stretched sprue to make small disks and stubby cylinders to add visual variety. And I used other odds and ends - pieces of aircraft landing gear, short lengths of tubing, sprue mushroomed with a candle and cut off to make tiny domes, and whatever else from my parts box that seemed to fit. Not a difficult job at all, but incredibly boring. Still, the results were worth the effort. When I finished, the sides of my small scale Millennium Falcon had that cluttered, mechanical look that I saw on the big screen.
