To make the sea, I spread Elmer's Professional Carpenter's Wood Filler on a plywood base, then shaped a wave's crest and trough with a knife. The filler was too thick at the corner where the wave peaked and didn't dry properly. It should have been applied in thin layers built up to the required thickness, but I had suffered an attack of impatience.
