Revell produces a standard set of 1:96 figures dressed as merchant seamen and officers of the last half of the 19th century. I used the figure sculpted in the act of climbing the rigging for my oarsmen. Since it already had one leg bent at the knee and both arms outstretched, there was less work involved in modifying him. The straight leg was cut off, separated at the knee, and then cemented back on in the sitting position. Arms were either bent or cut off and repositioned to grasp the oar. Different heads from other figures were transplanted to make each oarsman an individual.
