Batmobile 1966 09

I ran into a road block that halted work on the Batmobile for a long time. The real Batmobile sports an elaborate scheme of red pin striping that accents many of the cars lines. I couldn't figure out a way to do this. I had considered painting the body red and masking before I painted it black, but that didn't seem practical. I tried strips of red decal film but they were not flexible enough to go around the many curves on the model. I bought some red striping tape used by RC modelers, but it wasn't all that flexible either, and its adhesive had a tendency to smear. I thought I was stuck, so I raised the problem at a meeting of the local chapter of the International Plastic Modelers' Society. Sure enough, one of the car modelers suggested that I try real automotive pin striping, but he was emphatic that it had to be 3M brand. Only this tape had the flexibility and was thin enough to use for modeling. I bought some (3M Scotchcal Striping Tape, #72304 Red) and he was right. It worked like a charm.
