The Futura had a raised hump that ran half the length of the hood. Barris extended this and opened it to make a scoop. I removed the sloped front edge of the molded hump to leave a sharp edged vertical surface to which the extension could be butted. The scoop extension was cut from 0.020" sheet. This was rolled over a knife handle to curve it slightly. Narrow strips were cemented to each side. The sides were then filed and sanded round. The scoop is divided into two smaller scoops by a strip that extends forward and curves down around the front of the car. On some pictures of the five full size Batmobiles, you can see through the gap between this strip and the hood. In other views, the gap seems to be filled in. I decided to cement a vertical gusset under this strip, both for strength and durability, and because I thought it looked better.
