I wanted to display the solar sailer in flight, so I used some clear acrylic rod to simulate the light beam on which it rode in the movie. I wish I'd had some tinted rod for this but all I had was clear. The stand supporting the clear rod "beam" was made from stainless steel tubing bent into a squarish "U" shape. The "beam emitters" at the top of the steel tubing were made from plastic flower holders and some sort of wheels from the parts bin. They are recent improvements made to the model during repairs after it got knocked off a shelf and broken.
