Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles was a 1999 CGI animated television series based on both the novel by Robert A. Heinlein and the 1997 film adaptation directed by Paul Verhoeven. The series focused on the actions of the Mobile Infantry squad, "Razak's Roughnecks," during the war between humanity and an extraterrestrial race, the "Bugs". The show dropped the political satire of Verhoeven's film and included elements from the original novel, such as the extraterrestrial race known as the Skinnies, powered armor suits, and drop pods. It was thus less offensive to the fans of Heinlein's novel than the movie had been and was generally well received. However, production problems dogged the series and it was cancelled without a real climax to the story.
