I had some very thin plastic (approximately .005") which I had salvaged from sheets of vacuformed sails. I made tick marks on the plastic sheet at .010" intervals. Using a steel rule as a straight edge and a soft pine working surface, I made a line of evenly spaced indentations in the plastic with the pounce wheel. The thickness of the wheel is such that with the rule set .010" from the edge of the sheet, the indentations are centered on the strip. A sharp #11 blade parted the strip from the sheet. The product of this process is a narrow strip of evenly spaced "rivets". When I first applied liquid cement to the strip some of the indentations collapsed because the plastic was so thin. To reinforce them, I filled all the indentations with superglue. Cemented to the model they produced the effect I was looking for. It might not be correct from an engineering viewpoint but it looked like something that could have been in a Jules Verne novel.
