Some illustrations showed a wooden engine compartment behind the boiler and I decided to include that feature on my model. Again, the Cutty Sark kit supplied the perfect part, a skylight. I cut pieces of clapboard siding (Evergreen Scale Models, Bellevue, WA 98005) to fit the window openings. When these and the molded iron frames around them were painted black, they simulated the ventilation louvers that would be found on an engine housing. A scrap piece of tubing, already molded with rivets, was cemented to the forward side of the housing. This would serve as the connection to the boiler.
