When I got serious about writing science fiction (around 1992) I had already been exposed to Space: 1889 but had never played the game. I was intrigued with the universe created for it, though, and thought it would serve well for a series of stories. I contacted Frank Chadwick and asked permission to write said stories and he graciously gave me the go ahead. Over the next decade or so, I wrote enough to make a book. At that time, I had just started my first publishing company, Thunderchild Publishing, and figured if I was publishing other writers' work, I could publish my own, too. I couldn't find Frank's message granting permission to write in his universe and I didn't feel comfortable doing so, anyway. I could see the potential for a lot of questions about why I was writing in someone else's IP. So, I rewrote the stories to change names and other things that were unique to Space: 1889 (replacing liftwood with cavorite, for example) enough to distinguish it, I believe. It is similar but it is another take on a steampunk story set primarily on Mars. I titled the collection of stories "Adventures on the Red Planet."
