The hull lines of the seaplane hull were sharpened with files. Also note the extra bit of plastic added to the nose to make it sharper than the kit nose. In the novel, Heinlein describes the shuttle as having a "needle" nose. I wouldn't call the model's nose a needle nose but it is pretty pointy for a seaplane.
