Batmobile 1966 16

Metal mesh grills fill the large openings in the front and rear ends of the car. I wanted to duplicate the appearance of these grills but with solid bulkheads, both for strength and to close off the view of the inside of the model. Fortunately, a fellow modeler provided me with some expanded copper mesh he salvaged from an electronic cable. Apparently, it served as electromagnetic shielding. I laid the flattened mesh on plastic sheet and painted it with liberal amounts of Testor's liquid cement. After a few seconds, I lightly pressed the mesh into the solvent softened plastic. When dry, it made a surprisingly strong bond, without filling the holes in the mesh as superglue would have. Card stock templates were made to fit inside the body behind the openings. These were used to cut grill panels from the metal mesh/plastic sheet laminate and these were superglued into the body.
