Outside the cockpit windows, stars shown steadily and brightly against a black so deep it seemed to draw them in. An even more beautiful sight lay below them. The Earth -- countless shades of brown and green, but mostly the blue of the ocean and all of it overlaid with thin blankets of brilliantly white clouds. The outline of Europe could be made out but there was nothing to indicate where one nation stopped and another started. Neither man said anything for long minutes.
