The Blackhawks made a final check of their gear, then loaded onto the bomber. With Chuck and Chop Chop at the controls, the B-26 lifted into the darkening sky and winged across the North Sea to Norway. As they approached the rocky coast, Chop switched in the special mufflers devised by Vladimir, the Blackhawks' aircraft engineer. The mufflers reduced the engines' power slightly but decreased their normal roar to a whisper. Chuck guided the Marauder into the fjord that concealed their target and opened the bomb bay doors.
