Robert Lowndes was known best as the editor of Future Science FictionScience Fiction, and Science Fiction Quarterly, among many other crime-fiction, western, sports-fiction, and other pulp and digest sized magazines for Columbia Publications, but he was also a respected writer, mostly of short stories.  Lowndes was a principal member of the Futurians (the membership of which included future science fiction luminaries like Isaac Asimov, Cyril Kornbluth and Frederik Pohl) and in 1991 he received the First Fandom Hall of Fame award.
