This was my first attempt at the Nautilus, built nearly thirty years ago. The hull was made from a model rocketry body tube and two nose cones. The superstructure was made from cardboard and the fins were made from balsa. I hadn't yet discovered the advantages of working in plastic when I built this model. In some ways it is truer to Verne's descriptions of the Nautilus than the later model, since it is essentially a long, streamlined spindle. Only the Disney-esqe details prevent it from being an accurate model. The interior details and figures were salvaged from this model and incorporated into the later model.
