"El Halcón Negro" Nº47, 30 June 1955. Published in Mexico by Editora de Periódicos "La Prensa". With a non-Crandall, but nevertheless dynamic and expressive, cover, in its comic-ish style, the contents of the comic book, in the very verge of the Comic Code period, managed to maintain in part the punch which trademarked the title from its birth.
The cover story, "Infierno en los Cielos" ("Hell in the Sky"), shows some defects in the art, which is quite below former standards, but seems somehow still pleasing to comic-addict eyes. "Chop-Chop" came next, starring in a funny four-page filler; then "El Lobo Marino" ("The Sea Wolf") sent the blue-suited group from the sky to the very bottom of the sea inside "The Sea Hawk", an ad hoc submarine; stiff art, but fine backgrounds and landscapes, plus the wicked lady in tights, which is always a welcome sight, rose the quality of the story; and "La Prueba de un Halcón Negro" ("A Blackhawk's Trial"), which, with somewhat improved art and a well-crafted script, rounds up a comic book which endures its "trial" stages with dignity. (I'm not sure if this issue had already been made by the DC staff instead of the Quality one, but there are some details in the inking that may suggest the DC "house line". I suppose the matter is clarified in the "Blackhawk" comic books section, where the original mag is shown. Thanks for your patience )
Editor's Note: compare to Blackhawk No. 87. To answer Carlos' question -- no, this issue was still a Quality production, since it is a reprint of #87. DC did not pick up the series until Issue No. 108 and even then the next several issues were still basically Quality as they were produced with the stories and art already on hand from the Quality staff. DC's editorial policy didn't really show until Issue No. 111.
Thanks to Carlos M. Federici for providing this issue.
