"El Halcón Negro" Nº11, Editora de Periódicos "La Prensa", México, 11 May 1952. This comic book is bound in the same volume than issue #5, and presents similar problems; but, aside from the small distortion at left side, the charms of the cover can be appreciated nearly in its full glory, I think. In a curious exception from the rule, the cover story, which reads on said cover as "Los Asesinos del Amazonas" ("Murderers of Amazonas") is named "¡Raíz del Mal!" ("Root of Evil") inside. In it, the gallant blue-garbed Air Aces combat the Balap tribe, "murderous natives paid by an aggressive nation. When the Blackhawks arrive from the air to defend peace, they find treason, death, and, worst of all, they find the ROOT OF EVIL!" [From the opening caption]. There is a panel in the middle row of page 3 which wouldn't be easily accepted by today's standards, for there the planes of the Blackhawks are shown in a ruthless attack with machineguns to helpless -though murderous-natives Chop-Chop follows, with his usual pidgin humor, perhaps less admissible in these days than the aforementioned killing; the Blackhawk group returns then in "Gota de la Destrucción" ("Drop of Destruction"), where the enemy navigates in an ancient pirate ship, with a buccaneer-type villiain in command (no match for the Air Champions!); and "Látigo de Montelon" ("Lash of Montelon") makes a fitting epilogue, with a script full of spies, saboteurs, and Hawkmen in disguise to infiltrate the band of evil killers, commanded by "The Lash", who has plans to invade a "small and defenseless republic" No Crandall art to be seen in the whole magazine; but competent drawing by other gifted members of the Quality staff make for a fully entertaining product anyway.
Editor's Note: compare to Blackhawk #51.
