Andrew Black provides the following:
"The Australian rights to the DC (then NPP) books were held by Gordon &Gotch, who brought the DC books out in an ultra-cheap B&W format.
To stretch their shelflife, the coverless returns were bound in threes and brought out as 'Colossal' books (some 250-300 pages in length). There was little thought given as to which books were bound together however, so it was always a lucky dip as to what comics you were going to end up with. It was one of the these collections which provided me with my first encounter with Blackhawk.
Unlike the Superman & Batman reprint books, which contained a little bit of everything, the Blackhawk books contained wall to wall Blackhawk stories. This meant that one monthly issue in Australia would contain five or six months worth of their American equivalents. At a cost of 20 cents (around US18 cents) this format provided great value, particularly to this cash-strapped youngster. :)
One of the advantages of the B&W reprinting was that - despite the cheapness of the printing - the linework was relatively clear, allowing the inker's work to shine. In fact it was several years before I realised that comics actually came out in colour!"
Andrew also provide cover scans of three issues of the Australian edition, Issue #12, Issue #57, and Issue #58. Andrew says, "The three scans were all from the dedicated Blackhawk title. When the books would get repackaged into the larger volumes, they tended to have generic covers (Things like Superman bursting through the page towards the viewer), so it didn't have to match the insides."
