The First Jet-Propelled Batplane

Detective Comics No. 108, February 1946, was the first attempt to bring the Batplane into the jet age. Batman and Robin bolt a pair of small jet engines to the wings of the Batplane. Curiously, this was not followed up with more jet-powered stories. It would not be until 1950 that a real jet Batplane would be introduced. The panels linked below do provide some other interesting views of the details of the early Batplane's design.
